In 1989 the family of Herehere (Jerry) Barrett invited members of V4 and soldiers who had served
with him to a hui at Tokikapu Marae at Waitomo to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his death.

There was a large turnout of our guys and also included engineers that he had worked with.
There were several plaques unveiled and a memorial service at Jerry’s grave,
where Paddy Smith addressed those gathered.

Paddy and Ray Davidson were wounded in the same contact where Jerry was Killed in Action
and Peter Rauhihi Died of Wounds.

Among those attending was Pam Miley-Terry who tended the wounded in Vung Tau Hospital.

We were hosted overnight with great hospitality and next day were given a guided tour of the Waitomo Caves.

This event bought closure for the Barrett whanau and was greatly appreciated by all those who attended.

Kia ora te whanau.
